If Brandy was being honest with herself, which she usually was, she wasn't surprised when Sam jumped went into the lake. She was just a bit surprised when he shifted back into human form in the middle of the water. “I like coming here at night. It’s rather peaceful.”
She smirked as she looked at him and stood up to her feet, peeling off her dry clothes until she was standing there in her underwear. No sense in getting her clothes wet, it wasn't like she could shift into an animal as easily as he could. Maybe a spell - no, she would rather just risk him seeing her almost naked, it wasn't like she was baring much more than the girls at the beach did. Besides, he had been to a beach before and - - and she needed to stop worrying about such things.
"I'm coming in, no sense in letting you enjoy it all by yourself"
She took a couple of steps back and then dived into the water, her head breaking through the surface after her body was fully submerged. It really was refreshing, especially with the night sky being as clear as it was. Curiosity got the better of her, and she closed the distance between her and Sam, placing herself in front of him as she moved her legs enough to keep her head above water.
"Sam. I want to ask you something, and please answer me seriously. Since I came back to Bon Temp's and started spending more and more time with you... do you still see me as just a little sister?"

Sam hadn’t quite been expecting her to join him- nor was he quite expecting to be so pleased about it.
He didn’t even bother looking away as she pulled the shirt over her head and dropped her pants, standing in her underwear. It was true, there was nothing revealed that a bikini wouldn’t show, but it made Sam’s heart rate pick up nonetheless, and he suddenly busied himself with once again swimming in circles as if it were the most fascinating thing in the world to do.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to look- just that he wanted to look too much.
"I'm coming in, no sense in letting you enjoy it all by yourself"
“The more the merrier. The lake’s big enough for two of us… and fifty of our closest friends.’ He joked, slowing from circles to tread water. The water was dark enough that they couldn’t see each other below the surface, which made him feel a little less awkward being naked when she was still clothed. When she swam over to him, he grinned. “So nice of you to join me.”
"Sam. I want to ask you something, and please answer me seriously.”
Well that got his attention. “Sure Brandy, what’s up?”
”Since I came back to Bon Temp's and started spending more and more time with you... do you still see me as just a little sister?"
Sam sighed. It had been the question he had been asking himself for a while now, and he wasn’t so sure it was a can of worms he wanted to open. Still, no time like the present… “Not really.” He admitted. “Which makes things a bit.. complicated.”

“The more the merrier. The lake’s big enough for two of us… and fifty of our closest friends.’
"I don't think fifty of our closest friends would be gutsy enough to jump in this lake in the day time - never mind in the middle of the night"
She smiled at the thought, did they even have fifty closest friends between the two of them? Sure, Brandy had some friends still in North Dakota and in Bon Temps Sam's friends were already Brandy's friends anyway. It had been easy for Brandy to make friends, but her closest ones well - right now, she considered Sam her closest.
The question she had asked him, about being his little sister, had been a question she had been wanting to ask him for awhile. The timing had just never been right, she wasn't even sure if the timing was right now but she couldn't very well turn back time either.
“Not really.”
Her heart raced a little.
“Which makes things a bit.. complicated.”
She swallowed, nodding slowly as a silence followed immediately afterward. She didn't know if that had been the answer she was expecting.
"I really like you, Sam. And the scary thing is, I could tell you that I really love you and not for a moment regret saying it."
So many things were out in the open now, and Brandy was never really one to keep things to herself. When thoughts entered her head they usually came out of her mouth despite any consequence that may of followed. She lowered her head slightly, gazing at her own distorted reflection in the dark lake before deciding there was enough awkward silence for the night.
"We should head back, I am craving apple crisp like you wouldn't believe"

"I don't think fifty of our closest friends would be gutsy enough to jump in this lake in the day time - never mind in the middle of the night"
“Well I don’t know about that,” Sam deadpanned. “Most of my friends are drunks.” It was true, most contact Sam had with people was through his bar, though he wouldn’t really call his patrons friends. Sam wouldn’t call a lot of the people he knew friends, actually, when it came down to it. He only had a handful or so- maybe even less than that.
Unlike Brandy, Sam had a harder time making and keeping his friends than he really should. He was a nice enough guy until his temper got in the way, but once it did, well, people learned quickly to take a step back or lose a limb. In Tommy’s case, almost literally.
"I really like you, Sam. And the scary thing is, I could tell you that I really love you and not for a moment regret saying it."
Sam was silent for a long time. He had always avoided looking at Brandy that way because of her parents, and the fact that they had taken in a hungry, homeless boy that had no one else. He had always seen that sort of behavior as a slap in the face for their kindness, and it had got him this far, to say the least…
But her parents weren’t here now.
"We should head back, I am craving apple crisp like you wouldn't believe"
Sam nodded slowly, watching as she moved to get out of the water. He took a deep breath and grabbed her arm, pulling her back to him, and he pressed his lips against hers.
“…I’ve always wanted to do that.”

“Most of my friends are drunks.”
Brandy simply laughed at that, shaking her head as she looked at him with a smirk of her face.
"Well, you do run a bar Sam, bars and drunks kind of go together"
To open a bar in Bon Temps, well, Brandy would of never thought of it - she thought Sam was brilliant for it. She knew her parents would of been just as impressed with Sam as she was. It took a smart person to invest the kind of money Sam had and actually make something of it.
She just never thought to ask how he managed to get the money. She didn't need to know, that was Sam's business. If he wanted to tell her he would, and it was such a mundane detail anyway. Especially after she had just finished telling him that she loved him.
And he was silent. Silence from Sam when she had no idea what he was going to say or do next was unwavering. Be best just to change the subject with food, and try to make the moment as less awkward as possible. Until he suddenly grabbed her arm and pulled her back toward him.
And pressed his lips to hers.
It felt so natural, like his lips were meant for hers, and she slipped her arms around him to return the kiss. He had been the one to pull away, but only to say something.
“…I’ve always wanted to do that.”
"... I've always wanted you to do that"
She smiled softly, running her hands through his wet hair before pressing her lips against his this time. She wanted to kiss him... for the rest of the night.

"Well, you do run a bar Sam, bars and drunks kind of go together"
“Really? Why didn’t anyone tell me before I decided to open a bar?” Sam joked, giving her an innocent, wide-eyed look. He had always wanted to open a bar, ever since he was old enough to tell what a bar was- it had always seemed to him like a magical place that made people happy, at least for a few hours, and brought them together. Being a boy that had very little family for very little time, he had always wanted someplace to feel like he belonged. And hadn’t tv shows always sold bars as exactly that? Cheers, Frasier, all of them sold bars that way… It had been adult Sam who saw that it wasn’t quite so picture-esque.
Still, he had his niche in town, that was for sure. He had his staff, which were like family to him, and he did have a few friends. It might not have been quite what he expected for his life, but for the first time, Sam was happy and comfortable where he was. There was only one thing missing…
"... I've always wanted you to do that"
“Always?” Sam asked with a chuckle. How stupid he had been, not to just go for it. It would have saved him a lot of time sitting home alone on a Saturday night, that was for sure. “Why didn’t you say something oh, eighty-seven times?”
When she pressed her lips against his and kissed him again, Sam pulled her closer to deepen the kiss. Why had he stood in his own way so many times? He could have already had this long ago, she had made that clear- why had he been so blind not to see it? “I love you, Brandy. I always have.”

“Always? Why didn’t you say something oh, eighty-seven times?” ”
She gave him a confused look, not exactly sure if eighty seven was suppose to be some kind of significant number or just some random number he had chosen. Leave it up to Brandy to get such weird thoughts during a moment that was this intense. This moment was changing everything between them, now that both of them knew for certain how the other person felt.
Part of him must of always known how she felt about him.
Now was different. There was no second guessing. No wondering or worrying, no more innocent flirting and as he pulled her close and deepened the kiss and she became completely lost in him. An embrace that was so passionate it made her heart float in her chest and she knew right at that moment she would never ever let him go.
“I love you, Brandy. I always have.”
Well that brought tears to her brown eyes. She was actually crying as she ran her slender hands through his hair and looked right into his azure blue hues.
"I will never abandon you Sam, I'll love you with everything I have and stay by you no matter what fucked up shit happens in this crazy town."
She had never been so happy as she rested her forehead against his, it felt like she was on a cloud she never wanted to come down from.
"Is it official Sam... are we a couple now? Because if we are.. I gotta say, you need to seriously move on with that trailer."

He hadn’t meant to make her cry, and for a moment, Sam frowned as he traced his fingers over her cheeks gently to erase the tears. “Shh, cher. No need to cry.” He resisted the urge to make a joke of it, to get her to laugh it off- because he honestly didn’t know what he had done to make her tear up.
"I will never abandon you Sam, I'll love you with everything I have and stay by you no matter what fucked up shit happens in this crazy town."
Sam blinked… and then he laughed. He had expected her to run away, to maybe have changed her mind in the five minutes they had been there, anything but that. “That’s what’s bothering you?” He asked, tracing his fingers down her jaw. “Brandy… nothing can tear us from each other. You’ve already proved that by showing up here.” He had never in a million years thought he’d see her again after that summer as kids, but here she was- and if that wasn’t a sign from fate, Sam didn’t know what was.
"Is it official Sam... are we a couple now?”
“Do you want to be?” Sam had never been particular about his love life- he didn’t give a shit if people knew he was with someone, or if they had a label for it- as long as they both felt the same, Sam didn’t think it was anyone else’s business what he did with his life. Whatever Brandy asked of him, she’d get.
Because if we are.. I gotta say, you need to seriously move on with that trailer."
“Ouch,” he pouted jokingly. “What do you have against my trailer? It’s a classy place, okay? Even if it is a bit… waterlogged.”

“Shh, cher. No need to cry.”
She choked back any further tears as his fingers traced over her cheeks. "I know.. I know that Sam, I'm just, I guess I'm just a little emotional right now. Those words meant a lot to me"
... because she had always felt that way about him.
She actually wasn't expecting him to laugh after she said she would stay by him. However, when he explained why she couldn't help but to smile. He was right, as he usually was - Sam always seemed to have knowledge that she didn't. She admired that about him, that she was constantly learning new things thanks to him. She couldn't of asked for a man better suited for her than Sam was.
“Do you want to be?”
She nodded as she lightly ran a finger tip down his cheek. "I do. I want to be able to tell Anthony and Timmy the next time they joke that I'm saving myself for you that I was. Then I'm going to tell them we have sex three times a day and that you are hung like a horse"
She almost kept a serious face when she said the last part. Almost.
She already began swimming back to the dock, holding onto his hand as she did so. "You have paid more on repairs for that trailer in the last couple weeks than you actually paid to mortgage that shipwreck. You should just tear it down and put a house there. Or come live with me, you already own that place anyway"

"I know.. I know that Sam, I'm just, I guess I'm just a little emotional right now. Those words meant a lot to me"
Sam didn’t know whether to smile or apologize for taking so long to come to his senses, so he did the first, moving his fingers from her cheek to her hair.
"I do. I want to be able to tell Anthony and Timmy the next time they joke that I'm saving myself for you that I was. Then I'm going to tell them we have sex three times a day and that you are hung like a horse"
That did make Sam laugh- mainly because he had had no idea that she was being teased nearly as much as he was about their situation. “But…. I am.” He joked weakly as he tried to catch his breath. Leave it to Brandy to take him by surprise twice in one sentence. “You could have just asked me.”
He grinned at her, following as she began to swim towards the shore so they could return home. “So I guess this makes you my girlfriend then.” It had been a while since he had said those words… There was Daphne, sure, but Tara hadn’t really been his girlfriend, more like… a mutual bedwarming deal. For a while he had thought he was in love with her, but now he knew the truth. It wasn’t love. He knew that now.
"You have paid more on repairs for that trailer in the last couple weeks than you actually paid to mortgage that shipwreck. You should just tear it down and put a house there. Or come live with me, you already own that place anyway"
“I have a lot of memories in that trailer.” Sam said quietly, shrugging. “It’s a dump, sure, but it’s my dump.” The trailer had been there before the bar, and it was the first thing that Sam had ever owned that was just his- the first thing he had ever owned, period. Sam was attached to it, for all he bitched about it. Not to mention the location was rather nice- there was no real commute to work day after day.

“But…. I am.”
"Hung like a horse?"
“You could have just asked me.”
"... if you were hung like a horse?"
She was laughing again, but the laugh was cut short so that she could speak seriously for a moment.
"I guess I'm just old fashioned that way. I was always worried you would say no, or that it would ruin our friendship. And you kind of told me in the beginning you thought of me like family, I didn't.. want to be hurt. I would rather of had you as only a friend than not have you at all"
Brandy was honest, but she was honest in a way that it was obvious she cared about the feelings of others. “So I guess this makes you my girlfriend then.” Brandy's smile got a little brighter right then as she slipped back into her clothes for the run back to her place.
"I guess it does. Expect musical cards and plush dogs on V-day"
“I have a lot of memories in that trailer.”
"Sam, I didn't mean..."
“It’s a dump, sure, but it’s my dump.”
She finished buttoning her shirt and made her way over to him, putting her hands on his shoulders.
"Then we will fix up your dump. Some new pipes, new carpets and a little more foundation added to the walls and it will be like new. Old memories and all."

"... if you were hung like a horse?"
Sam smirked. It was a mystery he was going to leave up to her to solve- if she dared. But he knew from experience that curiosity tried to kill the Brandy… so chances are she would accept the challenge.
"I guess I'm just old fashioned that way. I was always worried you would say no, or that it would ruin our friendship. And you kind of told me in the beginning you thought of me like family, I didn't.. want to be hurt. I would rather of had you as only a friend than not have you at all"
Sam tilted his head and ran his fingers through his wet hair. “I have… an amazing ability to fuck up relationships. I didn’t want that to happen to us- so I kept pushing you away.” At least he was being honest, he could say that for himself. Sam tried not to lie unless he absolutely had to. “But I’m yours as long as you’ll have me.”
As she got out and got dressed, Sam stopped in the water- unlike her, he didn’t have his clothes with him, so the run back would involve shifting… or going naked, and that was certainly not a rumor Sam would care to debunk later if anyone saw them together thusly.
"I guess it does. Expect musical cards and plush dogs on V-day"
“Expect chocolate.’ He grinned. Sam wasn’t a fan of buying lots of fancy jewelry for his girlfriends, and since the whole Tommy incident, he hadn’t exactly had the money to do so, but he would make sure that whatever he did give her was unique and heartfelt.
"Then we will fix up your dump. Some new pipes, new carpets and a little more foundation added to the walls and it will be like new. Old memories and all."
That seemed to calm his tirade, and he nodded. “All right.” He took a step back and shifted, trotting out of the water and shaking off his coat before barking at her, his tail once again wagging.

“I have… an amazing ability to fuck up relationships. I didn’t want that to happen to us- so I kept pushing you away.”
He was being honest, not that Brandy expected anything less from him. It meant a lot to her, that he valued their relationship that much. Once she did get around to telling her parents though, she already knew what her parents would say and it would be something along the lines of 'it is about time'. Even after he had left back then and she was so sad about it her mother always said that he would find his way back to her. Not to them, not to the family, but back to her. Back then Brandy didn't know what her mother had meant, but now she had.
“But I’m yours as long as you’ll have me.”
Until the very end.
“Expect chocolate.’
"I like chocolate"
Who didn't? Brandy felt better when she realized Sam liked the idea of keeping the trailer and just fixing it up much better. She couldn't blame him, and it would be fun to put on jean overall's and help him fix it up. "We will make a weekend of it"
When he shifted she gave him a quick pet and started off back to the house. She enjoyed it, it made her feel like she was sharing a part of his life with him that not many people did. Once they were inside the house she went straight to the fridge to get dessert ready. She couldn't get the thought of warm apple crisp and ice cream out of her head.

"I like chocolate"
“I’m real glad to hear that, because you’ll be seeing a lot of it.” That was true- Sam loved sweets, probably one of the lesser known things about him. Cakes, candies, but especially chocolates. And he liked his alcohol… but that was a story for another day.
"We will make a weekend of it"
“More like a year of it.” Sam said grudgingly- he wasn’t the best repair man by any means, and his trailer was in some pretty dire shape. Still… with some time and serious effort, it was salvageable.
After shifting, Sam trotted after her, this time keeping pace at her side, every so often his fur brushing against her legs. There were so many things to hear and see at night that he couldn’t properly share with her human senses, but it was almost as good just to have her by his side.
When she let him in, Sam headed into her bedroom and changed back, getting dressed before he came back out into the kitchen to watch her finish dessert. “So was it everything you dreamed of?” Sam asked curiously, referring to their run. He couldn’t imagine that it had been as fun for her as it was for him, since she couldn’t experience the world as an animal, but then again, she had been the one to ask to accompany him.
“That smells good.” He stated, watching her as she continued what she was doing.

“I’m real glad to hear that, because you’ll be seeing a lot of it.”
"Wait until I make you my homemade Belgian chocolate cake, you will never want me to leave the kitchen"
Quality ingredients made quality food in Brandy's experience, it explained a lot as to why the highest bill she had was her grocery bill. She always managed to make things work out, especially when she was the highest tipped waitress at Merlotte's - she just never told that to the others. Kindness in customer service went a long way, so did having a pretty face...
“More like a year of it.”
"I'll see if I can't get a couple friends of mine to do us a favor."
She just smiled, Brandy had friends in small places so to speak, she probably could pull it off. She didn't knew a thing about plumbing or fixing things up, but she knew at least a couple of people that did.
“So was it everything you dreamed of?”
"Huh?"
For a moment she didn't know what he was talking about as she set the dessert on the table.
"Oh, the run. Yes, it was nice, I like spending time with you. In either form."
She took a seat, taking a bite as he commented on how it smelled. "Thank you, it tastes even better. I was wondering though, if you couldn't do me a favor - would you mind staying up late tomorrow night and waiting up for me? I will feel a lot better knowing that you will be here to talk to if anything goes wrong"
