After a long day of student teaching and another two long hours of lecture, Halleigh was ready to call it a night and return to her apartment to rest, but she knew she couldn't do that. She had a project due in the morning on the learning analysis of students whose second language was English, and she had barely even put a dent in it. She hadn't had time.
After her run in with the Bon Temps Sheriff the weekend before, Halleigh had been sure to keep her nose especially clean. She hadn't replenished her stock of V, nor had she returned any calls anyone had placed regarding the stuff. In fact, she had "lost" her cell phone during a morning jog through the park, and hadn't had the money to replace it. Instead of selling, Halleigh's free time had been divided up between tutoring- $15 an hour- and babysitting, which she supposed was an all right occupation, though it didn't pay much. Her homework had been suffering however, and now it was catching up with her. She couldn't let her grades slip at all if she wanted to graduate with a 4.0. Anything less was unacceptable to the overachiever.
She had run to the Speedway before returning to campus, and with large coffee in hand, she had headed to the library. The weather was nice and there were still a few hours left of sunlight, so she checked out the books she needed and returned to the picnic table for smokers outside, booting up her beat up laptop. With a few minutes of struggling, she got it to connect weakly to the internet, and after checking her facebook and email, Halleigh got down to work.

Cajun had been at the library for a couple hours now, sitting off to the side at a table alone with a couple of European History books sitting in front of him. They had been mostly for show, but every once and awhile his gaze would read a paragraph or two out of boredom. He had been watching mainly, waiting for someone - anyone to come to the tables and take his interest. No one had, most of the girls weren't his type and he definitely wasn't looking for a man either. No, Cajun often went on instinct - a gut feeling as it were, and nobody was clicking for him.
Nobody up until two minutes ago. When he saw her he immediately put down the book in his hands and watched her walk across the room to a table in front of him. He smiled, rising up to his feet and running his hand through his hair. He was presentable in his brown slacks, black shoes, and light teal dress shirt that he was told brought out his eyes (by his foster mother, nonetheless). Now to just make up an excuse as to why he was suddenly approaching her. Lucky for him, he was quick witted and had an excuse in no time at all.
"It is amusing that this library has the capability of exceeding 100mbps with their connection but only ever gives the public access to maybe 57 of it. Here, let me help you"
He was already moving into her seat, making it quite known he would sit on her lap if she didn't move. His fingers went to her keyboard, ignoring everything else on the screen, in order to bring up her C prompt and type a bunch of words into it. Her computer flashed for a couple of moments and he eased out of her seat and nudged his head back to her laptop.
"Try it now, you will see what I mean"
It was a little trick Cajun had picked up during college when he took a computer programming course, actually there were several little tricks he picked up that had come in handy. He took the empty seat beside her, putting his elbows on the table as he pointed toward her connection in the bottom right corner to show the numbers had doubled.
"See? Perfectly legal and they won't even be able to tell. The techs put a limit on the bandwidth speeds so that the students don't spend too much time on you tube and such. It is actually stupid if you ask me, but when you aren't the one behind the desk what the hell can you do right? So what are you working on?"

Halleigh could count on one hand the number of times a random stranger came up to talk to her in the library. Even the V-heads that wanted drugs from her never bothered her in the library, and as such, it took her a minute to even realize Cajun was talking to her at all.
"It is amusing that this library has the capability of exceeding 100mbps with their connection but only ever gives the public access to maybe 57 of it. Here, let me help you"
“Err?” She blinked, getting out of her seat to avoid being sat on, and she stared at the strange boy. She had never seen him before, she was sure of it- he wasn’t exactly the type of guy one forgot easily. He was, quite simply, hot. Halleigh wasn’t usually the type of girl that would let her hormones run her complete train of thought, but as he clicked around on her hard drive, she just stared, and it had nothing to do with the fact a complete stranger was using her laptop, either.
"Try it now, you will see what I mean"
Halleigh gave him a look, but she reluctantly sat down and opened her browser again. She typed in one of the links she would be using to link to the library’s online database, and what normally took her several minutes took mere seconds. She couldn’t help it- she smiled. “Thank you.”

She glanced up over her laptop, curiously searching his face. Was this how he got girls? Did he wait for technical divas in distress or something? “I had a project due tomorrow that I’m hoping to finish.” She said with a slight shrug. “I procrastinated a bit took long, so I have to do it tonight. Thank you for your help, though.” She gave him a small smile, holding out her hand. “I’m Halleigh Robinson. I don’t think I’ve see you before.”

She seemed impressed, which was exactly what Cajun was aiming for. Get the girl's attention, and keep it. He pulled out the spare chair beside her, taking a seat as she said 'Thank you' and turned her attention back to the laptop and back to him again.
“I had a project due tomorrow that I’m hoping to finish.”
And yet he was curious as to what kind of project that was, she seemed comfortable now to keep talking to him. He liked talkative women, as long as they had a pleasant voice - which she certainly had.
“I procrastinated a bit took long, so I have to do it tonight. Thank you for your help, though.”
He shrugged as he casually leaned back in the chair, apparently he was planning on making himself comfortable while she studied. "I have the skills, seems kind of pointless not to use them" Another pet peeve of his were people that spent thousands of dollars on education but never did anything with it. What was the point if you were just going to spend the rest of your life being a bum anyway?
“I’m Halleigh Robinson. I don’t think I’ve see you before.” An introduction already? He knew his gut feeling was dead on as he reached for her hand and took it in his. Her hands were incredibly soft yet her eyes seemed a bit tired, like she had been up all night studying but wasn't quite satisfied with the outcome. "I come by once and awhile, Cajun June"
He let his hand linger there for a moment, and finally cleared his throat - looking right into her eyes as he spoke. "You have soft hands Halleigh, but you look tired. I'll go bring us some coffee from down the hall"
He actually didn't wait for her to say yes, already leaving the table he left the library and came back five minutes later with a caramel latte for her and a plain black coffee for himself. He hadn't meant a woman who didn't appreciate a good caramel latte and he was sure she was no exception. "So tell me, Halleigh, what exactly is your major? You look like the makings of a school teacher and might I add, your students are going to be incredibly lucky to have such a beautiful woman standing at the head of their class"

"I have the skills, seems kind of pointless not to use them"
Well, it wasn’t like she could argue with that. Halleigh wasn’t sure what to make of this guy- he was a bit forceful, but he seemed nice under that. She was sure some people said the same about her, after all, so how could she really let it rub her the wrong way?
"I come by once and awhile, Cajun June"
It was a unique name, and one that Halleigh was positive she had heard before. “Do you by chance know an Olivia Gunn?” Halleigh’s roommate had absolutely nothing in common with her, other than a need for someone to pay half of the bills. It was rare that the two even talked, beyond “I left your mail on the counter,” but the few times that they had, Olivia talked about her complete love for the Fellowship of the Sun, and even a little bit about what she did for the church. Halleigh usually blocked her out and did the complete smile and nod act, because when it came down to it, Steve Newlin really creeped her out, and it wasn’t like she had her own vendetta against vampires. They were sort of paying her half of the rent, indirectly. “She’s my roommate.”
"You have soft hands Halleigh, but you look tired. I'll go bring us some coffee from down the hall"
She blinked. Apparently this guy wasn’t going to leave, and she had to wonder- did he hand around the library just to pick up girls? She didn’t have long to contemplate, as he was back with two drinks, one of which he placed in front of her. She usually preferred black coffee, but she wasn’t so rude as to refuse a free drink from someone who was trying a little too hard to curry her favor.
"So tell me, Halleigh, what exactly is your major? You look like the makings of a school teacher and might I add, your students are going to be incredibly lucky to have such a beautiful woman standing at the head of their class"
“You have it right, actually.” She shrugged, watching him. She was pretty sure he wanted something from her, but whatever it was, she wished he would just come out and say it. As flattering as it was to be hit on by a stranger, she had a lot to do and not enough time to do it. “Look, Cajun, did you need something…?” Part of her wondered if it was V, but he didn’t look like someone that would use. Then again, neither had the Sheriff. “I’m sorry, but I really don’t have time to hang out.”

“Do you by chance know an Olivia Gunn?”
Cajun couldn't help but to mentally laugh when the name left Halleigh's lips. He couldn't believe that Olivia had any kind of connection with the very woman who had just become his next conquest. However, when she had said that Olivia was her roommate his eyes got cold - he swore that if Olivia did or said anything to fuck this up for him he would make sure she paid for it. However, as smooth as Cajun always was he quickly realized he wasn't answering her question and his face lit up before he rubbed the back of his head with a smile.
"Yeah I know her, she is a little flighty and not quite all there upstairs but she is a nice girl. " He wasn't going to go beyond that, not until he had a chance to "feel" Halleigh out. He wasn't going to take the chance that she turned out to be intimidated by the FOTS or Steve Newlin. He would eventually change her mind, but it was far too early to bring it up and he knew once he had the chance he was going to have to track down Olivia before Halleigh got the chance to see her again.
“You have it right, actually.” Teacher. He sure knew how to call it, which was an ego boost to him because it meant he hadn't lost his touch. “Look, Cajun, did you need something…?” Okay, so he wasn't really expecting that - even as she added she didn't have time to hang out.
The moment the words left her mouth he smiled charmingly and ran his hand through his hair before reaching into his pocket and pulling out a card that had his name and number on it. "Of course. I understand - you are a busy girl that wants to do well in college. Why else would be here in the library so focused on studying? Tell you what though, I am going to a jazz club tonight to grab a couple of drinks so why don't you join me? I mean, you can't spend all day studying - that just isn't healthy for anyone"

She couldn’t tell what she had said, but something in Cajun’s eyes changed slightly at the mention of Olivia. Was she an ex-girlfriend, perhaps? Halleigh hadn’t meant to offend him- the question had seemed innocent enough.
"Yeah I know her, she is a little flighty and not quite all there upstairs but she is a nice girl. "
“No kidding.” Halleigh said, glad that the moment of silence had passed. “She spent an hour the other day trying to figure out how to turn the television on.” She shook her head. Olivia was sweet, but Halleigh had no patience for idiots. She had promised herself that she would either find a new roommate this summer or else get her own place, but that wasn’t likely to happen now that she had gone on selling hiatus courtesy of the sheriff. Money was tight, so Olivia would stay. Halleigh had no idea where she got her money, as she never seemed to work, but the girl had a lot of it, and had no problem sharing.
He held out a card to her, and Halleigh took it, giving it a glance before looking up at him. All right, who the heck was he, that he had to carry his own business cards around? Either he was extremely cocky, or he did something important in a company- but no business logo was printed near his name.
"Of course. I understand - you are a busy girl that wants to do well in college. Why else would be here in the library so focused on studying? Yep, she had called it. He had been trolling for a date. She considered his offer for a minute, then glanced at the clock on her computer, before looking back up at him. “Sure, why not? It sounds a lot more fun than what I’m currently doing. Shall I meet you there?”

“No kidding. She spent an hour the other day trying to figure out how to turn the television on.”
Cajun actually laughed at that one, a genuine laugh that almost brought him to tears. Oh, that was Olivia all right - like he said earlier that day she had rocks in her head where her brain should be. He wiped away a tear that came from laughing too hard and returned his attention back to her. He didn't mention anything else though when it came to Olivia, he preferred not to give any indication as to how well he actually did know her.
“Sure, why not? It sounds a lot more fun than what I’m currently doing. Shall I meet you there?” He was smiling even bigger now that she had agreed to come, he wasn't sure for a moment there but when she agreed it made things all that much more easy for him.
"Sure, I have to go swing by the ATM machine anyway to take out some money for drinks. Whatever you want when you get there is on me. It is right off of main, called Jazz Times - big fluorescent saxophone right above the door. What do you say, about a half hour or so?"
Nothing like some good saxophone music to really relax a person's soul. There was few things in this life that Cajun sincerely enjoyed and hearing Jazz music was actually on his list of top ten's.

He had a nice laugh, Halleigh mused as she watched him. Now that her initial surprise over his presence- and attention- had passed, she found herself attracted to him. Not in the I-must-be-with-you-now, sense, but she definitely appreciated his look, so to speak.

Halleigh knew the place he was talking about, though she’d never had occasion to go there herself. “That sounds good.” She agreed with a smile. “But give me an hour and I’ll meet you there.” That way she could go home and change into something slightly more presentable than her current sweater and jeans combination.
It would also give her time to finish her paper.
