Jazz times held a small crowd, the patrons were generally mild mannered and sophisticated. It was the one place you could come and actually sit and enjoy the music, rather than dealing with mosh-pits and headbangers. Cajun had some class to him, he had to in his line of work - but his "usual" work was the furthest thing from his mind that night.
He was waiting outside for the girl he met at the library earlier that day - Halleigh. She seemed intelligent, definitely attractive and just a bit vulnerable. First he wanted to learn more about her, what kind of stuff she liked and what her home life was like. He needed to lay down the ground work first before he introduced her to his other world.
He had changed since the library, into pressed brown corduroys, black shoes, and a purple and black stripped dress shirt. He had caught the eyes of a few single girls and mainly smiled toward them - there was only one girl he had his eyes set on and hopefully she would be arriving soon.

Her hour was almost up, and much like Cinderella, she was in a rush. She had parked her car and scampered the last few blocks to the jazz club. If there was one thing Halleigh hated, it was being late. It was something her mother had instilled on her young, and she had never been able to shake the habit- in fact, it was one of her biggest pet peeves in other people. Nothing was more rude than showing up late, and Halleigh did everything she could to avoid doing it.
She had given up her jeans for a black shirt dress that accentuated her slender waist and accented her other curves. Her tennis shoes had also been traded in, this time for low heels, which made it harder for her to flat out run. She glanced at the watch she had on her wrist and pushed herself to walk faster. She rounded the corner and took a deep breath, hoping her face wasn’t flushed from exertion as she approached Cajun.
“Hey.”

“Hey.”
He looked toward her, a smile on his face the moment she came into view. She looked nice, a little more dressed up than she had been at the library which meant the date meant something to her. Or at least, enough for her to put a little extra effort just like he had. He eased out his arm for her to take and lead her inside.
"You look spectacular, thank you for coming out tonight. You could of changed your mind"
The club was softly lit, given way to a nice mood as the saxophone played in the background. There were tables all around with candles in the middle and he lead Halleigh to a table he had reserved by the stage. When the waiter came by, he had already known Cajun by name.
"What will it be for you tonight Mr.June?"
"Your finest white wine, a order of bread sticks with a slice of chocolate cheesecake, and whatever the lady desires"
He gestured to Halleigh, waiting for her to order.

The smile she received from him told her she had chose right in choosing her attire- she had had a few doubts about whether she was a little too dressy, but apparently not. He certainly looked nice as well, and together they looked like quite the pair. As he held out his arm to her, she slid her own through his and allowed him to lead her from the sidewalk indoors.
"You look spectacular, thank you for coming out tonight. You could of changed your mind"
“Thank you.’ She shrugged. “Even I deserve a day off every now and then, and besides, I think it would be good for us to get to know each other better.” She took a seat when they arrived at their table, looking around curiously. How many times had she wanted to come in here, but hadn’t, for one reason or another? It was like Cajun had read her mind earlier.
It was evident that he had been here plenty of times, because the waitstaff knew him by name. Halleigh watched his exchange with the waiter curiously, and smiled when the waiter turned to take her order. “The tiramisu, please.” She said, handing over her menu before returning her attention to Cajun.

“Thank you. Even I deserve a day off every now and then, and besides, I think it would be good for us to get to know each other better.”
"You read my mind"
Alright, so their interaction was going smoothly, now more than ever he was confident he had chosen the right woman. Curiosity was getting the better of him the way it usually did and he was watching every little mannerism she displayed. From the way she held her menu, to the way she spoke to the waiter were all the things he was taking in - studying her. He had human interactions down to an art.
“The tiramisu, please.”
"Nice choice. I have a sweeter tooth, their cheesecake is worth every penny"
When the waiter left and it was just the two of them, Cajun leaned back in his chair and crossed one leg half way over the other the way guys usually do. The wine arrived before he even had a chance to ask her any opening questions and he sat back up. "I'll get that" He stood up, taking the bottle opener from the waiter and handing it back to him. Instead, he had reached for the butter knife that was on the table and effortlessly knocked the cork out of the bottle. The cork flew up in the air as bubbles poured out of the bottle and Cajun caught it with his left hand behind his back while his right hand poured the wine in the glasses in one fluid movement.
The onlookers in the club actually cheered the little show and Cajun bowed before taking his seat back. He reached for his glass, bringing it to his lips as the bubbles rose delicately to the surface. "This wine will go excellent with your tiramisu. Now, why don't you tell me everything there is to know about you?"

As Halleigh surrendered her menu, she rested her chin in her hand. The dim light of the jazz club made her hazel eyes seem almost black, the candle on the table reflecting back at him. She found Cajun just as interesting as he found her, though for different reasons. Halleigh was a firm case of bark being worse than bite, but her bark usually went a long way to frighten off guys- yet Cajun refused to be deterred. That alone thrilled and worried her. In time, she was sure she’d figure out which it was.
"Nice choice. I have a sweeter tooth, their cheesecake is worth every penny"
“Maybe next time.” Halleigh was a big tiramisu fan- her mother had always made the best tiramisu in the parish. She had even won a few awards at the fair.
"I'll get that"
Halleigh couldn’t tell what it was that threw her off the most: his persistence or his enthusiasm. Cajun was unlike anyone else she had ever met, and that idea was confirmed as he performed his wine trick. It was hard to tell if Halleigh was impressed or impassive, but there was a strange gleam in her eye.
“Clever.” She praised, her lips pulling up slightly into a smile. “Thank you.” Elle would love this one. A bit flashy for my tastes, however. She mirrored his movement, taking the glass in her hand and sipping it. It was good wine, she’d give him that.
"This wine will go excellent with your tiramisu. Now, why don't you tell me everything there is to know about you?"
“Everything?” She repeated with a smirk. “I’m afraid we don’t have time for everything. What would you like to know?”

“Maybe next time.”
It was the tone in her voice that gave away that she was interested in another time with Cajun. Cajun wasn't really the type that "took his time" - it was all or nothing with him. He seemed to be fitting in well with Halleigh and to him, at that moment, a little effort on his part was something he could live with. It was human nature in his mind, everyone wanted somebody - even if just for a fleeting moment, but not everyone would admit it. Both Halleigh and him were single - he knew that if she wasn't, she probably wouldn't be there tonight, and even if he had an alternative agenda he could still have a little fun in the mean time with her.
“Clever. Thank you.”
"Oh that?" He shrugged as he took a sip of his wine, flashing her a smile when he put his glass back on the table. "The lengths that a guy will go to impress a girl hmm?" Yes, he was trying to impress her and he certainly held no shame in that.
“Everything? I’m afraid we don’t have time for everything. What would you like to know?”
The song changed into a slow song and Cajun had sat up in his seat, standing up and walking over to her. He extended his hand to her, looking down at her with a coy smile as his bangs fell in front of his eyes carelessly.
"Later. Dance with me"
He held her hand, walking backward as he guided her to the dance floor. A few scattered couples had taken the reins themselves and joined Cajun and Halleigh on the dance floor. He pulled Halleigh close, one hand on her hip as the other hand reached for hers and he began to dance with her. He lead her in perfect timing to the music, an excellent dancer that knew how to move, a quality his foster mother always told him was a rare find in a man. Cajun put effort into everything he had did, including dance lessons - everything from ballroom dancing to 50's jive.
"You are beautiful you know, I knew this the moment I saw you in the library. Intelligent, dedicated and passionate, I know without a doubt you will make an excellent teacher. If I was your boyfriend, I would cherish every moment I could spend with you because you my dear, are one in a million"
