It was a full moon, nestled against the blanket of night like a giant pearl in the sky. Miso didn't mind it so much out in Bon Temps because you could still see the stars bright in the sky. It was on the chilly side that night, and Miso had a white mug of hot green tea nestled in her slender hands. She was snuggled warm in her 'three sizes too big' soft white sweater and white jeans, her bare feet pressed against the railing of the balcony.
It was quiet outside, and she was content being alone without somebody else's thoughts invading her mind. The past couple of weeks had been.. different. She tried to stay out of trouble for Gin's sake, but as she slid her forefinger over the rim of her cup she wondered if he even liked her at all. Most of the time he acted like she was a burden more than anything else, and while he seemed to have no interest in her at all her coworker Richard was completely the opposite.
Her coworker made it very clear that he wanted her and every day it was a struggle for Miso not to read Richard's mind. She didn't know if she was ready to be that way with Richard even though he was certainly attractive and she was certainly.. lonely. He also spoke of the FOTS and Miso was even more unsure of that. What would he really think of her if he realized she was linked herself to a vampire? And why the hell, whenever she thought of kissing Richard or 'fooling around' with him did she feel guilty? Why did it feel like she was betraying Gin? She didn't owe Gin anything. Gin and her weren't together. Gin didn't even like her that way.
She took in a deep breath, shaking her head of her own thoughts as she brought her cup of tea up to her lips.
It was going to be a long night.

Gin had been busy, to say the least. What with Northman being the sole focus of Bill’s attention lately, Gin had been forced to take a more active role in the kingdom’s affairs… and he had hated every minute of it. Gin had never had even the mildest aspirations of being king, not even for a day- he hated all chance to show responsibility, instead preferring to fulfill his childish pursuit of constant curiousity. Which, in retrospect, was why it was so easy to throw aside his real job for the evening and take a much needed, but unapproved, day off.
The little telepath had kept her word, at least, to stay out of trouble. She hadn’t been dumb enough to get herself caught doing anything too stupid lately, and so perhaps he could offer a mild… apology… for being a bit harsh with her. At the very least, he could see if she had rethought his offer to work for Bill, because if he was being completely honest with himself, her saying yes to that would be a hell of a lot easier on him than the current double-agent thing he was doing. Covert affairs were just as appealing to Gin as kingship was.
He knew exactly where the girl lived, it hadn’t been hard to find out once he had rifled through her possessions in her car. He strolled down the pathway on Hummingbird road towards the town, too fast for humans to notice, but still rather slow for a vampire. Would he make himself known to her? Possibly. Would he watch her, get another feel for her in her natural habitat? Definitely. There were still mysteries to be figured out about this strange telepath with no allegiance… it was almost too good to be true.
When Gin finally reached the house where the girl lived, he paused when he noticed her practically glowing in all the white clothing. It almost begged for… no. He couldn’t think about that, or he just might give in, and that wouldn’t be good for either of them. Perhaps he should have eaten before he came….
“Evening, Miso-chan.”

It was a really good thing that Miso didn't talk out loud to herself. If Gin really had any idea how much she thought about him he would probably accuse her of having more than just 'friendly' feelings toward him. She couldn't even describe their relationship if she tried. Were they friends? Acquaintances? Hell, she didn't know. All she knew was that they weren't lovers. Another thing she knew was that she had no warning whenever Gin decided to come around - unlike she could with others, she couldn't hear him coming.
“Evening, Miso-chan.”
"CHE!!!!"
Miso yelped out, her green tea dumping itself all over her white sweater - which, lucky for her, was thick enough to absorb most of the heat of it. She stood up immediately, taking off the sweater in haste to reveal the black silk camisole she wore underneath. The sweater itself would need to be washed right away, and she looked around for Gin.
"Dammit Gin, I can hear you but I can't see you. Why are you hiding?"
Shaking her head she bundled up the white sweater and waited for him to come out of the shadows. His visit was completely unexpected, but wearing the tea on her favorite sweater was even more so.

Well, he hadn’t exactly expected her to dump her tea. Sometimes he could forget how clumsy humans were…
“CHE!!!”
He stifled a laugh, his eyes roving up her body as she pulled the sweater off of herself, only a tiny bit disappointed she was wearing a camisole beneath the ridiculous white sweater. Still, the camisole was rather nice… teasing, even… NO.
What the hell was wrong with him tonight?
“My apologies. I did not mean to frighten you.”
"Dammit Gin, I can hear you but I can't see you. Why are you hiding?"
“I’m not hiding.” As if to prove his point, he suddenly appeared on her porch, so close she could practically feel the coldness radiating off of his body. “I never hide.” He tilted his head slightly, watching her with the same hungry look a wolf would give a deer. He was still in control… but his mind was quickly going south. “Why are you sitting out on your porch, unprotected? Hmm? There are big, bad wolves out in the wild, little one…. And bigger vampires.” Vampires that would like to make you their plaything, he added silently.
“But I did not come here to chastise you.” He folded his arms across his chest, leaning back against the railing. “I came to congratulate you, actually. Even after that stint in the woods, you’ve somehow managed to remain under the radar. Good job. You're brighter than I gave you credit for.”

“My apologies. I did not mean to frighten you.”
She just nodded, tossing her sweater inside - it was already stained anyway, nothing some tide wouldn't fix. She had had her back to him when he suddenly appeared beside her and when she turned around she swallowed when she realized how close he was to her. Even as the words “I never hide.” mused from his lips she could feel the warmth crawling up her cheeks.
Did she always feel this way around him? The look in his eyes was almost.. hungry and she suddenly felt the need to cross her arms in front of her breasts. She looked innocent as she looked up at him, keeping her head slightly down. “Why are you sitting out on your porch, unprotected? Hmm? There are big, bad wolves out in the wild, little one…. And bigger vampires.”
"I... I can protect myself."
Sometimes. Sometimes she could protect herself. Depending on the circumstances, depending on if her own ability kicked in in time. Not like that one time on the side of the road, when Gin ended up having to rescue her...
“But I did not come here to chastise you.”
He had her curiosity now, she unraveled her arms and looked at him. He wasn't as close to her anymore, instead he chose to lean against railing. “I came to congratulate you, actually. Even after that stint in the woods, you’ve somehow managed to remain under the radar. Good job. You're brighter than I gave you credit for.”
Why did it seem like he was praising her.. and sort of insulting her all in one breath? A sigh left her mouth as she reached her hand up and tucked her brown hair behind her ear. "Arigatou, Gin-san" She bowed politely to him, standing there silently for a moment before she looked back at him. In the moonlight, the way he was.. she had wanted to tell him...
".... was that all?"
... she thought he was beautiful.

He looked down at her as she looked up at him, for a moment wishing he was the telepathic one so he could read her mind. It was a pity that that wasn’t part of his arsenal of undead gifts… it could be quite fun, as well as useful.
Suddenly she folded her arms over her chest and he stepped backwards, shaking off his reverie. He was letting his instincts take hold again, his hunger and her tainted fae blood mingling to create a heady aroma of dinner- something he couldn’t let happen. Not here. Besides, he didn’t even like the taste of humans, so why was she so appealing to him, anyway? Was it the faerie blood? He’d have to go through Bill’s computer system and find another telepath to compare to…
"I... I can protect myself."
“No you can’t.’ He responded simply. How many times had she already proven that? He had rescued her twice already, and how many other times had someone else had to do that job? He wasn’t sure, but he was pretty sure the honor wasn’t all his… she wouldn’t have made it past puberty if that were the case. “Not against us, anyway.”
Not against me, if I decide I want to rip out your throat right now…. Seriously, what the fuck was wrong with him tonight? He was rarely like this, so like…. A vampire.
"Arigatou, Gin-san. Was that all?"
He shrugged, scuffing a boot against the wood of her porch as if he suddenly wasn’t sure what to do with his limbs. “I had the night off.” He admitted grudgingly. “I came to see if you changed your mind about my offer.”

“No you can’t." She was about to protest, but suddenly her protest had fallen short. “Not against us, anyway.” And that look in his eyes, did he not realize the look he was giving her?
She hated not being able to read his mind. Sometimes. Most of the time the silence was so peaceful, she had wanted him to never leave her side.
“I had the night off.” So he had decided to spend one of the few nights he had off to see her? She honestly, didn't know what to say. “I came to see if you changed your mind about my offer.” Oh. She actually was disappointed, she wasn't quite sure why she was - what had she expected?
"About turning me over to Bill. Gin, I don't want to get caught up in vampire politics. I don't want to be Bill's pet telepath because now that Sookie is back and doesn't want a thing to do with him he is going to end up turning to me. I told you I would only work for you, isn't that enough?"
Had she really told him that? She did tell him that she was in debt, ever since that first night in Fangtasia, but she was drawn to him. Like a moth to a flame, she supposed. Maybe that was why, she hadn't told him about Richard. She disappeared into the apartment for a quick moment, heading to the kitchen to quickly heat up a bottle of true blood for him. It didn't take long for her to come back onto the balcony, and she handed the bottle to him.
"You keep giving me that hungry look."
She was silent for a moment, but it didn't last. Instead she had sat down in her chair and looked toward him. No better time like the present. It wasn't like he would care, she was sure of it. Well, she was sure he wouldn't care about Richard, he might care about the FOTS connection though.
"Besides, I can't work for Bill. If I did that, Richard would start to get suspicious. "
Miso glanced upward, trying to read his reaction unconsciously when she had told Gin his name. She already assumed what his next question would be and she broke eye contact again to stare at the floor of the balcony.
"Richard is my coworker at the paper.. he has taken up an interest in me as of late. A romantic one, I suppose, he always wants to be alone with me, to touch - "
She stopped, Gin didn't need to hear this - she knew she wouldn't want to hear if a woman suddenly had interest in him. Who was she kidding? Gin was a vampire who hung around Fangtasia - he always had women interested in him. And if she continued on like this she would risk telling him that the reason she didn't return Richard's affections was because she was always thinking about him.
"- he wants me to be his girlfriend, and he wants to introduce me to a group he frequently visits. You will get a kick out of this one, I suppose you might find the same sort of irony in this that I do.... "
She no longer was looking at the ground, but she couldn't really look into his eyes either. Instead, she chose her focus to be the moon.

“It makes no difference to me,” He shrugged, though that wasn’t entirely true. With Bill, he would at least be able to keep an eye on her. With someone else… God, he wished Russell were still around. He would know what to do. “But after your stunt in the woods, you’ve made it pretty obvious that you need some form of protection. I can’t keep showing up to do it.” Well, that wasn’t entirely true either. Could he? Sure. The real issue was whether or not he’d always be fast enough. “Bill would take good care of you.” But Russell would do better… “Besides, what would I do with a telepath?”
He watched as she got up to go inside, wondering if he had offended her enough that she was leaving… but then she came back- with a True Blood.
"You keep giving me that hungry look."
He took a sip, letting the fake blood rest on his tongue for a moment before swallowing. Already he felt better. “Thank you. Do you entertain vampires at home often?” He asked curiously, his eyes bright in amusement. This girl kept surprising him. “I can’t imagine you like the taste.”
"Besides, I can't work for Bill. If I did that, Richard would start to get suspicious. "
“Richard?” He went still, taking in every twitch of her face.
"Richard is my coworker at the paper.. he has taken up an interest in me as of late. A romantic one, I suppose, he always wants to be alone with me, to touch - "
“Is that so?” Gin wasn’t sure why he was irritated, but he was. Just as quickly as he had appeared, he moved from his relaxed position to her side, his fingers gently on her face. “He’s not good enough for you.”
"- he wants me to be his girlfriend, and he wants to introduce me to a group he frequently visits. You will get a kick out of this one, I suppose you might find the same sort of irony in this that I do.... "
Gin let his hands drop, his eyes narrowing.

“It makes no difference to me,”
Of course it didn't. It had been the answer that Miso was expecting. He had started to say the things he always said when the subject came up. He couldn't keep protecting her. Bill would treat her right. He had no use for a telepath. If he had no use for her, why was he even there? That was what she really wanted to know but she didn't feel like asking. If she asked that, she was afraid she wouldn't like the answer.
Thirty seven degrees wasn't it? She watched him curiously as he took a drink of the True Blood she had given him. “Thank you. Do you entertain vampires at home often?"
"Of course not."
“I can’t imagine you like the taste.”
"I've never tried. I had it my fridge, because I never know when to expect a surprise visit from you."
She had a four pack in her fridge for a couple of weeks now, the shit took about a year to expire from what she read on the bottle. She hadn't even been curious for a moment to try it.
“Is that so?”
She gave him an odd look when the tone in his voice changed just enough for her to notice. She wasn't expecting him to suddenly move to her side, his fingertips touching her face with a gentleness she didn't know he was capable of. Her dark caramel hues looked into his, a vulnerability reflected in their depths.
“He’s not good enough for you.”
".... Gin ... ?" Did he realize how close he was, the impression that he was giving her? Surely he didn't...
.. so she continued.
He let his hand drop from her face.
“Interesting company you keep, little human. Vampires, fellowship members, one might think you have a death wish.”
She actually 'humphed' and shook her head. "No. The last company I want is from the fellowship. Self-righteous assholes the lot of them are, scared little sheep who don't even realize how foolish they are. Steve Newlin should have his head mounted on a stake, you would be surprised how easily the most of them would fall"
The last thing Miso wanted was to be involved in the Fellowship, it was why she kept changing the subject when Richard suggested it. Even now, Miso was unsure of what Richard's intentions really were. However, standing here with Gin like this made her wonder what Gin's intentions were. She found herself looking at him, he was still close to her - so close that his words about Richard still echoed in her head.
"Why did you say that Gin? That Richard was not good enough for me? I didn't think you felt that way. At least.. not about me."

"I've never tried. I had it my fridge, because I never know when to expect a surprise visit from you."
Gin blinked, momentarily stymied. “Am I that predictable?” He mused, frowning at her. He hadn’t thought so, but if she was storing up true blood in her fridge for when he visited… wait a minute. Did she expect he was going to drop in and rescue her again, and she was going to pay him in blood? This girl was a good manipulator if that was the case. “It’s not much of a surprise if you know what to expect beforehand.”
He knew it was stupid the moment he touched her face and she looked up at him. He had always been good at hiding his cards close to his chest, but a momentary slip had made him put them all out on the table for anyone to see. He was getting careless.
It was a bad combination.
".... Gin ... ?"
Further reminder he was being stupid. This human and he should never have met, should never have crossed paths… but it was too late now. He had had a taste of her, of sorts, not of her blood but her essence, and he wasn’t likely to let go anytime soon, no matter what he told her otherwise.
"No. The last company I want is from the fellowship. Self-righteous assholes the lot of them are, scared little sheep who don't even realize how foolish they are. Steve Newlin should have his head mounted on a stake, you would be surprised how easily the most of them would fall"
“Not easily enough.” He mumbled. Bill had a live and let live policy with the fellowship that annoyed Gin to no end. He rarely wanted to kill humans for the sake of killing humans, but sometimes the fellowship made him forget that.
"Why did you say that Gin? That Richard was not good enough for me? I didn't think you felt that way. At least.. not about me."
Gin folded his arms over his chest, his smile a little derisive. “Hardly. Humans are food to us, Miso-chan, not… lovers.” Unless you were Bill, but, well, he was a little fucked in the head on all accounts. “I hold nothing but curiousity towards you.” And something else, but she didn’t need to know that. He couldn’t show all of his cards.

“Am I that predictable? It’s not much of a surprise if you know what to expect beforehand.”
"You are the most unpredicatable being I have ever met. That was the reason I stored the True Blood in there. "
Her place was the last place she though Gin would end up. It was in that fact alone she even had True Blood in her fridge - stranger things had happened. Apparently that night proved it. After she had told him her position on the Fellowship, he had seemed to be at ease. She wondered if he had even noticed. However, what he said next to her well, it actually... hurt her feelings.
“Hardly. Humans are food to us, Miso-chan, not… lovers.”
She immediately fell on the defensive, scoffing at him as she crossed her arms and looked away from him.
"Hardly Gin. I wasn't implying anything of the sort."
She wasn't lying. At least not intentionally. She had been curious, for a moment she was sure he was about to say that Richard wasn't good enough for her because only he was. It was a stupid thought, she decided, and in fact she was grateful for the wake up call Gin had given her.
“I hold nothing but curiousity towards you.”
"And I only hold a debt to you. So now that we have that out of the way I guess everything is just peachy between us then. We can just forget you said that. Blame it on the moon, you had a momentarily lap of judgement"
The excuse seemed good enough for both them and she turned her back to him to lean against the railing of the balcony.
"So what do you think I should do? About the whole Fellowship thing? Richard is suppose to be seeing me tomorrow and I can't keep changing the subject. I can tell in his voice he is getting annoyed.. "

Karen would be the first person to admit she was jealous of Richard's newest conquest. She hadn't been formerly introduced to her yet but with how much Richard talked about her she felt like she knew the little Asian bitch enough already. Karen was amused though, he already said just one more day and he would get her to them but when "one more day" came he was always empty handed.
It had been at least two weeks and about four meetings and Richard had came by alone each time. So she started following him, there was nothing wrong with that. He should know that she was the only girl meant to be with him. She also assumed his whole affection with Miso was just an act - but she was impressed with the restraint the girl seemed to have. Had it been her, she would already be fucking his brains out by now. Okay, to be honest, she would of on their first date.
That night, the night of the full moon, she hadn't followed Richard home from where he worked. She had followed Miso home. When she saw her, she was impressed - Miso was a cute little thing you just wanted to store in your purse as an accessory. She seemed timid and fragile, very much withdrawn and it almost made sense to Karen why Richard was interested. Miso was probably a challenge for him, not fawning over him the way girls usually did but showing him just enough attention to let him know he stood a chance.
How interesting. How well played. Karen followed behind in her own car, waiting until Miso was parked and on her way home before she parked her own car and found the perfect place to spy on the little man stealer. Across the way, just far enough to not be seen, Karen had climbed a tree and took her focus on Miso's balcony. Armed with binoculars and a camera she kept her focus on her apartment.
Well, this was interesting. Who was the positively gorgeous man showing up out of the blue? A grin formed on Karen's face as she pointed the binoculars in their direction. "Oh, well.. this is interesting isn't it? Richard will not like this at all will he?"
She saw Miso hand the man a True Blood - which only meant one thing. Karen almost laughed out loud in her own excitement, taking out her night-vision camera for pictures. Miso was friends... with a vampire. Oh this was rich, this was rich indeed...

"You are the most unpredicatable being I have ever met. That was the reason I stored the True Blood in there. "
That pacified his paranoia just enough for him to calm down, and his demeanor became closed off once again. Gin still hadn’t decided if this girl was a threat or sort of a strange amusement for him… and perhaps he never would. At least until he figured it out, it was guaranteed he would keep coming around. Curiousity was certain to be the death of Gin- he could never let any stone remain uninspected.
Had Gin realized what effect his words had had on her, he would have been a lot more careful with them in the future- after all, enemies were less likely to let him go through their stuff, or ever give him a chance of wandering through their house. Gin wasn’t lying, however, when he said he wasn’t looking for a lover- he never was. That was the sort of thing that just walked up and bit him in the face.
No wonder he lived such an interesting life.
"Hardly Gin. I wasn't implying anything of the sort."
“That’s funny. Then what were you implying?”
He wasn’t sure whether or not to be flattered that this girl took such an interest in him, or a little worried. Now that vampires were out of the coffin, more and more of them attracted groupies with the mentality that “if I can’t have you, no one can,” and Gin wasn’t quite in the mood to kill any overactive fangirls that might pop up- if and when the occasion arose. Miso didn’t strike him as a groupie, but he had seen some rather normal looking ones out there… they were usually the craziest.
"And I only hold a debt to you. So now that we have that out of the way I guess everything is just peachy between us then. We can just forget you said that. Blame it on the moon, you had a momentarily lap of judgement"
“Said what?”
It was hard to tell if he was joking.
"So what do you think I should do? About the whole Fellowship thing? Richard is suppose to be seeing me tomorrow and I can't keep changing the subject. I can tell in his voice he is getting annoyed.. "
“Tell him he’s a racist asshole and you never want to see him again. That should sum things up nicely.”

“That’s funny. Then what were you implying?”
It was a good question, one that Miso couldn't answer at the moment. Gin seemed distracted with his own thoughts but that had become something Miso was more than use too. She swore sometimes that Gin had ADD, but that was a silly notion wasn't it? A vampire with ADD? She didn't know what she wanted from Gin, or what he wanted from her, or even why she was asking herself that - wasn't she kind of with Richard?
“Said what?”
She just stuck her tongue out at him.
The wind picked up at that moment and she shivered, realizing how cold it was outside without her sweater to keep her warm. “Tell him he’s a racist asshole and you never want to see him again. That should sum things up nicely.”
She actually laughed softly at the thought, bringing her hand up to her mouth as she giggled. "He isn't racist Gin, he is dating me" She turned around, smiling softly at Gin and shaking her head. Of course she knew what he had meant, didn't mean she couldn't probe at him slightly about it. Again she shivered from the cold, bringing her hands up to her upper arms to rub them.
".. and this is where I go inside."
She glanced at him once more, parting her lips to say something but quickly deciding to change her mind she turned around and headed inside the apartment. She was pretty sure she had given him the answer he was seeking and it wasn't like he gave any indication of wanting anything else.
"Good night, Gin-san, and if you ever want to come by again - you are already invited."
Giving him one last smile, she slipped into her apartment and closed the balcony door behind her.

Gin might not have been paying the most attention, but he did notice that she cleverly avoided answering the question… and that was curious. That could mean many things… and each idea was more tantalizing than the last, to say the least. Gin wasn’t a vampire that was used to contact with humans, and he certainly wasn’t used to being heeded by humans… but this one, hmm…
When she stuck out her tongue at him, he grinned impishly. It reminded him of better, briefer days… how many times had he done that to someone else, just to piss them off? Talbot never had much cared for Gin…. And Gin didn’t care much for people who didn’t care for him.
"He isn't racist Gin, he is dating me"
Gin fixed her with an intense stare. “There are other kinds of racism.” That was for certain. For every fangbanger out there, there was another that absolutely hated him for what he was. Normally, Gin didn’t care. But when it got in the way of him getting something he wanted- in this case figuring out what made the little telepath tick- Gin could get rather irritated with the whole thing.
".. and this is where I go inside."
Gin frowned.
"Good night, Gin-san, and if you ever want to come by again - you are already invited."
“In?” The question left his lips before he even knew he had asked it. If she was inviting him in… oh, there was a world of possibilities there, almost too great for him to imagine. “I’m invited… inside?”
