“There are other kinds of racism.”
She glanced toward him, taking in a heavy breath she slowly nodded. She had known exactly what he had meant by that. Vampires dealt with racism as well, they were either loved or hated for what they were and if that wasn't racism, well, Miso didn't know what was. "I know. I am sorry."
She didn't know why she had been so nervous around Gin, maybe it was because he had been acting differently that night. Miso noticed the small things because she had to - it wasn't like she could read his mind like she could other's. She didn't know what to expect from him, didn't know what he was thinking, didn't know if he wanted to bite her or hug her. He kept himself a mystery to her, and she was curious as to why she had kept his interest for as long as she had.
It was probably just because she was a telepath, it wasn't like he could study Sookie Stackhouse the way he seemed to study her.
“In?”
She gave him a confused look, her hand still on the handle of the sliding doors.
“I’m invited… inside?”
"You aren't going to turn all creepy on me and start snooping through my things when I am not at home are you?"
She held the door open now, standing with one foot on the balcony and one foot in the living room.
"Because I can just as easily un invite you. I know a little bit how those things work. As it stands now, Gin, yes, I invite you inside."
She looked away from him to step inside, holding the door slightly open as she tilted her head toward him.
"You won't do that, will you? I mean... you won't.. right?"

"I know. I am sorry."
Gin shrugged. What was there to say? There were optimists that believed that sooner or later, racism would be eliminated, but taking one look at Bon Temps, Gin wasn’t an optimist. People would always hate and fear what was different than them- so maybe Russell was right. Maybe vampires needed to assert their differences and conquer… before they were conquered.
And a telepath would make it so easy…
But Russell was dead. There was no point in thinking about what he would have done, because Russell was a leader. Gin… Gin was not a leader. And Russell…. Was gone.
"You aren't going to turn all creepy on me and start snooping through my things when I am not at home are you?"
The question pulled him from his dark his musings and he actually grinned, that quickly giving away to an honest to god laugh. The idea had certainly crossed his mind, that was for sure. There was no better way to get to know someone than to snoop through their stuff, especially in their home, where their closest objects were held…
"Because I can just as easily un invite you. I know a little bit how those things work. As it stands now, Gin, yes, I invite you inside."
Gin pouted slightly at the threat, like a puppy smacked on the nose with a newspaper. No snooping then, that much was clear. At least, not until his curiosity about her was sated…
"You won't do that, will you? I mean... you won't.. right?"
“No,” he sighed as he followed her. “I won’t.” As he stepped inside, he brightened again, the disappointment forgotten. “Nice place.” He stated, moving to inspect her television and DVD collection before something else grabbed his attention, calling him to that instead.

“No, I won’t."
She believed him. Part of her, however, didn't actually expect him to come inside - she thought that he would leave and find something else to do. As she watched him go to her television and then to her DVD collection she decided to stop trying to predict his next move. Whatever she predicted would end up being wrong anyway.
“Nice place.”
"Arigatou."
Now it was her turn to be curious about him, watching him as he explored her most precious possessions. She had a lot of them, from geisha artworks on the wall to good luck cats in a cabinet by the wall. She had trinkets and decorations to remind her of home, the faint smell of cherry blossoms lingered in the air from the candles and incense burners around the apartment.
"I want to move to a house some day, when I can afford it. It would be my dream to have a traditional Japanese garden in the back yard. Cherry blossom trees as far as my property would allow, with a white brick walk way leading up to a beautiful pond. I would be there, under the stars, every night with the only sounds being the sounds of the night around me."
Her mind wandered for just a moment at the thought of it, before she glanced toward him. There was a slight blush on her cheeks, as if she had just revealed a part of herself to him she hadn't anybody else.
But she had, hadn't she?
"Make yourself comfortable, I do not know how long you plan on staying but you can help yourself to whatever you like"

Gin had no idea that his erratic behavior was such a game, or he would have really gone out of his way to be unpredictable. As it was, the vampire was so curious about everything that he constantly seemed to be on a caffeine high- when really he wanted to take everything in at once and just wasn’t capable of it.
"Arigatou."
Gin nodded and turned to examine something else. The cats seemed to receive the most of his attention, however… it called back part of his own human life. His mother had also had a collection of the little cats in every shape and color, but they had been destroyed when Gin was six by an earthquake in Tokyo. His mother had always seemed a little depressed after that, as if the destruction of her luck collection made her think life just might be something to be suffered through, rather than celebrated. Gin had never been so sentimental. He didn’t care so much for objects, other than what they said about the people that owned them- and it was people that mattered to Gin.
“That’s a nice dream.” Gin said sincerely, looking over his shoulder at her. He hadn’t had any dreams himself, he lived in the moment- and he had a feeling he always would. Thinking about the future bothered Gin.
"Make yourself comfortable, I do not know how long you plan on staying but you can help yourself to whatever you like"
Gin shrugged. “I plan on staying for now. Is that all right with you?”

“That’s a nice dream.”
Miso was blushing. Not because of the compliment itself, but because the compliment had come from him.
“I plan on staying for now. Is that all right with you?”
She had made her way to the kitchen at that moment, rising on her toes to get a tea pot from one of the top cupboards. Curiously she looked over her shoulder at him and nodded. "Of course it is."
Should she admit she enjoyed his company? Not tonight. And especially not since the porcelain teapot slipped through her fingers and came crashing to the floor. Well that was disappointing, considering she really adorned that teapot. She bent down to pick up the pieces in order to throw them in the trash - and ended up cutting herself on one of the teapot shards.
"Ouch!"
A thin trail of crimson blood dripped slid her finger, a sigh leaving her lips as she picked up the shards as quickly as she could with her other hand. The last thing she wanted was to step on any shards when she got up in the morning and walked through her kitchen barefoot.
"I'll be right back, the first aid kit is in the bathroom"
She fully expected a remark about how clumsy she was, or some sort of joke that she shouldn't have the teapot up that high considering she was so short. However, it wasn't like she was use to having someone else in her house either and now she was more embarrassed than anything else.

Gin watched her face flush as the blood rushed to her cheeks, the vampire in him automatically pulled to the sudden change in the direction of her blood. He politely looked away, returning his attention once again to the cat collection. He didn’t want to give her the idea that he was considering her a midnight snack to follow his dinner.
Fortunately, she turned and went into the kitchen then, giving himself a moment to collect his thoughts. It wasn’t that he was particularly hungry right then- it all had to do with his age. For a vampire, Gin was still rather young, and therefore had to run off of a lot more blood than his older brethren. When one was almost always hungry, one took to noticing when suddenly his species’ version of a “steak” was only five feet away… though Gin tried not to draw as much attention to it as some of the other vampires.
That was harder to do when the blood was no longer encased in skin.
Gin suddenly appeared in front of her, his motorcycle boots crunching the porcelain of the teapot as he took her hand in his own. He stared at the red beads of blood on her skin, taking a long moment before he exhaled softly and pushed her hand away from himself roughly. “Attend to that,” He snapped softly, his body rigid with tension. Had she not given him that True Blood earlier, he would have already sunk his fangs into her… but he could hold on to his control for a few more moments.
"I'll be right back, the first aid kit is in the bathroom"
Gin took the opportunity while she was gone to clean the glass, dumping it into the trashcan while he waited. When she returned, he looked at her with an unreadable expression. “Not too badly hurt, I hope?”

She actually jumped when he was suddenly in front of her. An involuntary yelp forced its way passed her mouth when his boot crunched the porcelain shard on the floor and he grabbed her hand.
Stupid Girl.
Did you forget you were with a vampire?
She looked at him wide eyed as he just stared at the beads of blood on her skin, her body refusing to move or take her hand away. Without warning he pushed her hand away and she held it to her chest as if she was worried it was going to break.
“Attend to that,”
It had been the fastest she found her way to a bathroom. When she came out her finger was neatly bandaged up, but her heart was still racing.
“Not too badly hurt, I hope?”
She shook her head firmly, and bowed her head to him to stare at the floor.
"I am a stupid girl. I don't imagine it was easy for you to just..."
She shook her head and looked back up at him.
"Thank you, for cleaning up the remains."
Had she become so comfortable around him she forgot what he was? Even more so, did she forget what she was? There was a moment of silence between them as they stood there in the kitchen and finally, she glanced toward the bedroom.
"Shall I continue showing you around? I think you might like the kimono's I have hanging on my bedroom wall. I rarely get a chance to wear them, but they are authentic."
Miso probably could of dressed up like a real Geisha if she wanted, as she thought about it a soft sigh left her lips.
"I miss it back home. The tea ceremonies, the kimonos, the beautiful Mandarin dresses. When I came here from Japan it was quite an adjustment to American culture. I do not feel quite as beautiful as I do when I am done up in a kimono like a true Geisha."
Those were the days, memories that she missed. She casually wondered how her parents were doing in Shreveport - her father would probably disown her if he ever found she was in cohorts with a vampire.
"Unless, you had something else in mind."

"I am a stupid girl. I don't imagine it was easy for you to just..."
How many times had Gin watched someone hurt themselves, then turn around to apologize to him? None that he could think of, and the idea made him frown just slightly. “Why are you worried about me? You’re the one slicing your fingers.”
"Thank you, for cleaning up the remains."
Gin shrugged. She hadn’t seemed like the type of girl to want glass littering her floor for no reason, and she had already proved klutzy enough to cut herself on it… it seemed beneficial for both of them that Gin be the one to dispose of it. “You’re welcome.”
"Shall I continue showing you around? I think you might like the kimono's I have hanging on my bedroom wall. I rarely get a chance to wear them, but they are authentic."
Almost like snapping his fingers, his former, almost childlike, mood returned, and he was bouncing on the balls of his feet in anticipation. “I would like that very much.” He admitted, his mind already in ten different directions. If hse left him alone long enough, he’d have the contents of every closet strewn out in hopes of getting a complete read on her. But he had promised to behave himself… so maybe he could coerce her into showing him?
"I miss it back home. The tea ceremonies, the kimonos, the beautiful Mandarin dresses. When I came here from Japan it was quite an adjustment to American culture. I do not feel quite as beautiful as I do when I am done up in a kimono like a true Geisha."
That made him still again as he blinked at her. “Then why are you here?” To Gin, the world was nothing but a chance to take oppurtunities- if he wanted to go to Japan, he went to Japan. If he wanted to run off to Russia, fine, he was on his way. Since becoming a vampire, Gin had been limitless, and sometimes he forgot what it was like to be human- how hard it was to just up and leave everything. He made a face at her final comment, and it was hard to tell if his own was a compliment or an insult. “You are beautiful in any culture.”
"Unless, you had something else in mind."
“No, I would like to see these kimonos.”

“Why are you worried about me? You’re the one slicing your fingers.”
Had he really not realized why she was worried about him?
"Because of the blood, Gin."
He had shown restraint, where any other vampire probably would of sucked her finger and got a taste of her blood. Which probably would of lead to wanting more, and her young fairy self completely drained on the kitchen floor.. not something she had wanted for herself. Or for him.
There wasn't any need to further dwell on that, and she smiled when he expressed an interest in the kimonos. It felt like she was sharing a part of herself with him she didn't share with anyone - and in essence, that was exactly what was happening. She didn't even mention the kimono's when Richard had come to visit - he was far more interested in getting in her pants than paying attention to anything on her walls. Honestly it seemed he didn't want to get to know her at all, he seemed only interested in her as a pretty face.
Richard was shallow.
Gin seemed much more than that.
“Then why are you here?”
"I came here with my parents. I can't just pack up and leave and go anywhere I want to. It isn't that easy for me, I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to visit Japan again."
She was looking out towards the balcony as the words left her mouth, almost like she believed Japan was right outside those balcony doors. Life just wasn't that easy.
“You are beautiful in any culture.”
She was torn away from the balcony doors, looking back at him with a blush on her cheeks again. Was he complimenting her, or insulting her? Whatever his intentions, it didn't make her cheeks burn any less.
“No, I would like to see these kimonos.”
Miso nodded and left the kitchen, walking ahead of him to lead him to the bedroom. Her bedroom, her haven, looked like it was taken right out of an "Asian living" magazine. From the shades of red and black, the Japanese style bed, the kimonos hanging up on the walls, the paper fans that hung above her bed and the smell of jasmine lingering in the air - it truly was her sanctuary.
Her slender hand actually reached out for his and she lead him across the room to a red and white kimono hanging by her dresser. "This one, right here, is my favorite"

”Because of the blood, Gin.”
He still didn’t get it. “It won’t hurt me.” But it would hurt her, if he had got it in his head that he wasn’t going to resist. “You’re a strange one, worrying about the one threatening you instead of taking care of your own welfare. You might want to work on that.”
Fortunately, topics returned to friendlier waters as they went back to considering location.
"I came here with my parents. I can't just pack up and leave and go anywhere I want to. It isn't that easy for me, I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to visit Japan again."
“I’m sure you will.” Gin said quietly. Maybe… he could do that for her. She had shown him parts of the human world he had long ago forgotten about, such as the fragility of life when you didn’t have the time to really enjoy it. It was amazing- when Gin had been changed, he had thought he would never forget his mortality, what it was like to breathe and face the chance of dying every day. Yet… that was the first thing to go, increment by increment, every single day. “Maybe not forever… but for a bit.” He would speak to Bill about the tickets… the King owed him, after all.
After his backhanded compliment, he knew she was staring at him- and he didn’t look back. He wasn’t sure what game he was playing with this human, or why she pulled him like flies to honey. He followed her as she headed towards her bedroom, only giving the rooms they passed cursory glances. He was most interested in her bedroom, not because he only wanted her out of her clothes, but because bedrooms said the most about people. Everyone had one, and it was usually their true sactum… and therefore the most sacred part of figuring out who a person really was.
Gin’s expression was thoughtful as he took in her decorations, only looking away when she began to speak.
"This one, right here, is my favorite"
“Model it for me.” He said decisively, looking sideways at her. “I’d like to see it on you.”

“It won’t hurt me.”
He still didn't get it.
“You’re a strange one, worrying about the one threatening you instead of taking care of your own welfare. You might want to work on that.”
She opened her mouth to say something else but then changed her mind, slowly shutting it. She couldn't help but to just laugh slightly and shake her head - she was getting "use" to Gin. She found him adorable..... she just wouldn't tell him that.
“I’m sure you will.” She just looked at him, the tone his voice had a sort of confidence to it as if he knew something she didn't. “Maybe not forever… but for a bit.” She just nodded and tucked her auburn hair behind her ear, perhaps it was better she kept her hopes up instead of just closing off that door forever.
Having him in her bedroom was almost like he was in shower with her. Like she was standing there completely naked and baring her entire being to him. She couldn't really describe the feeling, but she wanted too. She wanted to show him the world, to share things with him, she -
"“Model it for me.”
Her dark caramel hues widened, she wasn't expecting to share that.
“I’d like to see it on you.”
She was silent for a moment, turning her attention back to the kimono as her slender hand ran over the fabric. After what seemed like an eternity she finally spoke. "Alright."
Lifting the kimono carefully from the wall she disappeared with it into the bathroom. She was far too modest to change into it in front of him, even if the thought had crossed her mind. When she returned back from the bathroom she had her hair up, held together in an old style bun with decorated chopsticks pointing out the back. She glided on the carpet with only the soft sound of the fabric lightly touching the floor. In the doorway she stopped, holding her hands and resting them in front of her as she looked at him.
Her cheeks were flushing pink again.
"... do I remind you of home.. Gin-San?"

For the first time since entering the house, Gin was truly still of his own nature. It wasn’t often the young vampire was quiet for the hell of being quiet, and even rarer for him to remain passive for no reason. Gin’s mind was in the moment- not fluttering about like a butterfly on crack- for the first time since Russell had died.
It was refreshing… and intense.
Apparently his request took her by surprise, and he could see why. He was sure that few people demanded of her to model her own clothes for them, but Gin found that at that moment, he wanted nothing more than to see that kimono on her.
"Alright."
Gin nodded, watching as she removed the kimono from the wall, the silk of the material brushing his skin as she passed him. His eyes followed her to the bathroom, then flicked back to the now empty wall as if he could see through it. He didn’t even notice Miso had returned until she spoke.
"... do I remind you of home.. Gin-San?"
“A little.” He admitted, his eyes roving over the fabric, over her. It was like something off a far away dream, this girl in the kimono, and Gin didn’t want the end of that dream to ever come. “Home… I don’t often remember it.” He said slowly, as if gathering his thoughts. He moved closer to her, reaching out to touch the fabric once again, almost like he was seeing something else. “It seems like so long ago, Miso-chan. But this… I remember…” His thoughts trailed off again, and Gin leaned forward, pressing his lips gently to hers. It was almost experimental- he wanted Miso, he knew that much, but since he had been changed, Gin hadn’t had much of a romantic life, so to speak. There was nothing fun in taking the fangbangers that threw themselves at him, and most other humans were afraid of him.
But not this girl.
“You look beautiful.”

“A little.”
She reminded quiet, her face soft as she looked at him. She could feel his eyes on her and out of habit she tried to read his thoughts. She came out with nothing, as expected, but now she was nervous. What was he thinking?
“Home… I don’t often remember it.”
She felt for him. Her memories were all there, but she wondered how long it took as a vampire before the memories of your human life were completely forgotten. Then he moved toward her, reaching out to touch the fabric. She couldn't take her eyes away from him, but she remained silent and still as he continued.
“It seems like so long ago, Miso-chan. But this… I remember…”
His lips pressed against hers, and her heart raced. It wasn't just her heart, it was her whole body that felt like it was suddenly on fire. The feeling was so intense, even as he pulled away it felt like his lips were still on hers.
"Gin... "
“You look beautiful.”
"... don't ... "
She brought her slender fingers to his chest, keeping the distance between them - feeling more vulnerable than she ever had in her entire life.
"... don't go any further, unless you... really mean it. "

She spoke his name, and Gin stared at her cloudily. Vampires were creatures of impulse, to say the least, and his impulses were telling him to take what he wanted. Gin wouldn’t describe himself as a gentleman, but he wasn’t an asshole, either. He wasn’t going to force her hand- but he wasn’t going pretend to be thrilled if she said no, either.
”…Don’t….”
Gin stopped, frowning in confusion. She had seemed so willing earlier, had he read the signs wrong? It had been a long time since he had been human, after all… But she was still touching him…. His gaze fell to her finger on his chest, his own hand still touching the silk of her kimono. If anyone was watching them, he was sure they looked absolutely mad.
"... don't go any further, unless you... really mean it. "
Mean what, exactly? Gin wasn’t looking for marriage and children, and wasn’t quite so fond of relationships- though he was loyal when he did care about people, he didn’t like the labels involved- but he wasn’t out to hurt her. “I’m not here just because I want a quick fuck.” He said slowly, choosing his words carefully. “I can’t provide you anything- no family, no home, no real protection beyond what you’ve already seen- but my feelings are sincere. I’m attracted to you, Miso. It's as simple as that.”

“I’m not here just because I want a quick fuck.”
She fell silent, she didn't think it was possible for her face to turn any more shades of red.
“I can’t provide you anything- no family, no home, no real protection beyond what you’ve already seen- but my feelings are sincere. I’m attracted to you, Miso. It's as simple as that.”
She withdrew her hand, only to use it to carefully undo the ties that held her kimono together. She had her head turned enough so that she could see what she was doing and as her kimono slid down her body and dropped to the ground she looked back at him.
"You have provided the one thing I hold at the same value of all those things, Gin"
Her kimono was around her ankles, revealing her half naked body to him. She had no bra on because it had been uncomfortable but she felt almost fully exposed to him in only her panties. She swallowed hard and carefully released the chopsticks from her hair, shaking her hair loose till it fell almost carelessly over her shoulders.
"I have never desired someone the way I have desired you. And it has nothing to do with what you are, it has everything to do with who you are. I am falling for you, Gin-san. I am falling for you and it terrifies me."
She stepped out of her kimono, and lightly touched his face with her fingertips, running the underside of her thumb over his bottom lip.
"... make love to me, Gin. "
Her eyes softened as she withdrew her hand delicately. She couldn't think of anything else to say.
